why would a young woman of 25 suffer hair loss?

Hello, I know this is not directly a Pregnancy question so don’t bash me please. I am posting here because it all began with pregnancy..I am hoping for a little advice, or to hear from someone who has experienced my issue. Not too long ago, I used to have thick beautiful brunette hair…until I started experiencing what I thought was ‘normal’ post pregnancy hair loss. More specifically, it started after the birth of my daughter (at roughly 3 months postpartum.) Well, my daughter is now 18 months, and my hair has thinned so much, I cannot wear it down as it is so thin near the crown. I got a haircut that best "hides" the thinner areas, but I just lack the confidence in looks these days.. I don’t know what to do, and I admit that it has caused some minor depression in me. I see more hair everyday, in the shower, on the floor etc.

My doctor put me on Welbutrin 2x daily after I went to her and basically pleaded for some help. She didn’t help, just prescribed this medication…it frustrates me.

Personally, I wonder if it’s due to some hormonal imbalance, but really I just don’t know. There is no history of female hair loss in my family.

My doc has been of No help basically–I just want advice, what should I ask her to get the right care, or who should I seek a referral to see??

Female hair loss… due to stress?

I saw my primary care physician and brought up my recent hair loss concern. I have been losing more than the average 50-100 hairs per day. I am losing 100 from brushing alone! Not to mention shampooing, conditioning, and drying. He tested my thyroid and everything came back normal. I am starting to get worried. Just running my hands through my hair and I will get 3-6 hairs almost every time. I am wondering if I should go see my dermatologist (my doctor’s recommendation).

However, I am 85% sure that the hair loss is due to stress (job, ending of a relationship) and possibly from my sudden stop of oral contraceptives. About 5 years ago, I lost about 2/3 of my hair. I went to a derm and she said it was stress and suggested I start Rogaine for women. It took 2 years for my hair to start looking normal again… which is why I’m so paranoid and concerned now. I would be devastated if that happened to me again. It was the hardest time of my life.

Do I save myself the trip (and money) to see the dermatologist? Or should I go as a precaution? I would hate to hear the same thing — that it’s stress and it will stop on its own.

Does anyone know of any products that truly work to combat hair loss? Any advice would be really appreciated.

How to make my hair grow quicker?

I heard if you take some pills pregnant women take it increases hair growth but I’m not sure what they are called? And also if use hair loss products would it increase your hair growth? My hair lays on my shoulders and goes flicky so I need to get it past this stage so it will stay straight and then I can wear extensions.

Is Non-inherited male pattern baldness possible?

I am a 24 year old male.

No one in my family lost their hair. NO ONE! I have uncles in their 70’s with full heads of hair. Its white, but still there. Dad, brothers, and uncles all have their hair. And I mean all of it. Same goes for cousins. The women have their hair also. About 3 months ago I lost the corner of my hair line. Not the temple, but the corner. Its right where the hairline meets the temple. It just came out over a period of about 2 weeks. There is a gap there about the width of my thumbnail. It goes straight back about 1/2 an inch. Now the same has happened on the other side only its a bit bigger. Now I’m noticing thinness on the top of my head. The stylist thought I was a bit paranoid, but when my hair is wet I can see plenty of scalp in pictures I’ve taken of my crown. Pictures show hair growing out of the scalp but it clumps together to look like a gap. Its wet when I do this so maybe I am just paranoid. The hair loss at the corners of my hairline is real though. She noticed it too. About 3-4 months prior to the hair loss I underwent serious stress. Landlords tried to evict me (it got nasty and I had to get a lawyer). I bombed a very important standardized test (So important the results have completely altered my life plans) and a relative died. All of this occurred over a 3 week period of time. When I’m stressed I put my hand in my hair and pull at the hair line. Not really hard but I’ll rest my head on my hand and forcefully pull my hand through my hair a couple times. On occasion I’ll pull at my crown. I figured my genes would protect me from doing any damage plus it wasn’t so hard that it hurt. Could the stress itself, the fussing with my hair, and a bad college diet mimic a receding hairline. I’m going to a dermatologist but I fear the worst (Male Pattern Baldness).

I read about a maturing hairline on baldingblog.com , but I don’t know. No one in my family has that. I’m freaking out right now. I don’t want to lose my hair. Have I just got some mutant gene? I always had incredibly thick hair. I mentioned that I had a bad diet. I would sometimes eat only once a day. About 3-4 days a week. Usually pizza or something. Other days I would have an apple and some salami for lunch and maybe a steak or chicken fingers for dinner. No sides with dinner though. Would continuing this diet for two semesters be this harmful? I barely ate at all Freshman year (just graduated this semester) and nothing bad happened. I don’t have an eating disorder just a budget disorder. Oh. I also take copious antacids. I have ulcers. I read they can reduce your body’s ability to absorb nutrients.

My doctor is very busy and I have to wait almost a month. Is there anything I should bring up to her in particular? Any advice on what I just wrote would be very very helpful. No provillus pitches please. I get it. It’s a helpful in treating hair loss. Now that you know I know you don’t have to tell me again.

hair loss for young women?

My hair has been falling out little by little since my son was born. Okay, I realize that this is normal after pregnancy, however, my son is almost two years old now. I expected it to stop about a year ago at least. Every time I shower there is a large amount of hair covering the drain. Enough to make a small ball. I don’t take any medications, I don’t color my hair. I’ve had anxiety issues since I was in high school but it’s never affected my hair before, so I don’t know if that’s related now. I was considering changing shampoo, since I started using the current one (Aussie Cleanse and Mend) about six months ago. The hair loss has gotten worse in the last few months. No bald patches to speak of — it’s general all over hair loss. Any tips? I’m 26 and that seems young to be balding!

My hair is so dry and frizzy. What can I do?

My hair is really thick, and frizzy. I have tried many different shampoo and conditioner combinations. I’ve tried different brands. I have used hair lotion, Frizz Ease serum, Zero Frizz serum, flat ironing, blow drying, different brushes, even VO5 hot oil. Nothing seems to work! I hate how thick it is, it takes forever to dry (air or blow dry), and forever to flat iron it. I just recently got it cut (about 8 inches cut off) and the woman said the layers would make it appear less thick. It really doesn’t look any thinner. Add to the fact that my hair is constantly falling out!

It’s really rough, really dry, and again, really frizzy. I haven’t dyed my hair in over 2 years of any sort- no all over color or even highlights. I’m at a loss as to what else I can do. I have 2 kids- an almost 7 year old and a 3 year old, so I don’t really have time to do a lot with it. I wear it up often for this matter. I use ouch-less bands with no metal, and they aren’t tight. Any suggestions?!?!?!

Sudden hair loss in a young woman. Has anyone else experienced this and what should I do?

Since I got home from college in early June, I have noticed that I have been shedding hair more often. I ignored it thinking that it was all in my imagination, but recently even more has been falling out. I’ve started to wash my hair less often and have closeted my blow dryer and straightener for a couple weeks now, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Almost 200 hairs or more fell out in the shower today, and another 200 came out while gently running my fingers through it at my desk. This wasn’t the only time so much came out at once.

From what I can see, the hairs are falling out from the root. Some of them look like baby hairs that have just started growing.

I have been under a lot of stress lately and I think this is the cause. I’m in med school and took final exams around early June (exam week was terrible - I didn’t sleep or eat enough). I’ve been studying ever since as I have more exams for when I go back around the twentieth. There’s no way I can relax at this point though, and I’m afraid I’m going to lose more.

My hair used to be so thick and lush. I am really worried because it is definitely become thinner recently. I’m only twenty and am healthy - I eat right and exercise and have an ideal weight. What should I do? Has anyone else experienced something like this? Can anyone recommend some hair products to help?
