anyone taken amitriptyline for long time?

i have been taking it for 7 wks for my slipped discs and vulvodynia (a gynae prob) it is having no effect at all on the discs but i think it is helping the other, however i am very anti tablet taking and stressing about the side effects- it says hair thinning, does that mean the hair that grows since you start taking it woll be thinner or all the hair is going to thin? i havent noticed hair loss but it feels thinner but i accept that could well be me being paranoid!
a leaflet says you may only have to be on them 3/6 months for it to sort the gynae prob but was just wondering if it had cleared it up for any other women permanently as i may stick it out til then but not for much longer. i also have the dry mouth and weight gain which i can tolerate altho am not eating to control my weight which i guess is not ideal.
